PCSOs from Trowbridge Police Station were called into action to deal with two swans on the loose this afternoon.
In an episode which mirrored a storyline from hit comedy film Hot Fuzz, PCSO Emily Thomas and PCSO Maggie Ledbury were called out to the Semington roundabout, where two mature swans had escaped the canal and were holding up traffic on the A350.
PCSO Thomas, the force’s wildlife crime expert, said: “There’s a bit of a running joke at the station that I’m the swan handling expert.
“We got there to find one swan on the busy roundabout and another one further up the road towards Melksham.
"We caught the swans, which is always the tricky part, and put them in the police car before putting them back in the canal.
"One of the swans rode in the back seat and the slightly rowdier one sat on my lap.
“It was Maggie’s first time holding a swan which she found a bit daunting at first but she did really well."
Neither of the swans suffered any injuries.
