PEOPLE were left with egg on their face as they took part in an egg throwing competition in Chippenham to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Held at the New Inn, Upper Seagry, the event attracted more than 30 people where they swapped pints for raw eggs and attempted to beat the opposition.

Andrew Lindsay, owner of the New Inn, said: “It was very popular and it was hilarious, we had three times as many people as last year.

“I would say we had 35 qualifiers leaving us with five finalists, and last year’s winners Jonathan and Daniel Bradston won it again.

“We don’t have the exact number from the day but I would say we managed to get about £300 but the pub total for Cancer Research will exceed £3,000 but that’s not all from the egg catching.

“We’ve been doing it for three years here but I have been doing it for years when I owned pubs in France.

“We’re hoping that next year the Bradston boys will be beaten, but they’re very good.”
