HUNDREDS of school children will put their best foot forward and run as fast as they can during the May Mile in Chippenham this weekend.

More than 200 children of all ages have already registered for the annual event, which is now in its eighth year and has inspired young people to keep active.

Organiser Zoe Rucker said: “We have 265 children already registered and we have lots of new people which I’m really pleased about.

“The under 17s, they are starting their GCSEs on Monday and they are not going to see daylight for another two months and I just want them to spend ten minutes to get a medal.

“They really do inspire the other children, especially the under 11s who see them run and think this doesn’t need to stop, I can carry it on.

“The children want to do it and I reckon it will be bigger than last year when we had 500 kids.”

Seven races will take place on the day including the new category for under 5s, as well as under 7s, under 9s, under 11s, under 13s, under 15s and under 17s.

Everyone taking part in the event will receive a medal and money raised from the run will go towards voluntary organisation, Youth Action Wiltshire.

Registration, costing £5, will open at 10am on Sunday (May 14) and come rain or shine the first race will commence at 11am on the playing fields at Sheldon and Hardenhuish School.
