CHIPPENHAM residents are cleaning up with a number of campaigns to tackle rubbish in the town centre.
The Rubbish Walks has launched a one-a-day campaign, encouraging locals to pick up at least one item of litter per day and binning it. A dozen volunteers collected more than 10 bags of general rubbish and 10 bags of recycling were removed from parks and public places in Chippenham on Saturday, as part of the Rubbish Walks community clean up.
“We didn't meet our record of 35 bags of rubbish and recycling that we set in February ... and that's a good thing!” the team said. See rubbishwalks.org for the date of the next meet.
On the same day, the Big Avon Tidy saw divers retrieve items such as shopping trolleys and bikes from the river alongside Monkton Park. The event was organised by Chippenham Connected, in association with Chippenham Town Council, Our Wiltshire, Official Calne Divers, Wessex 4x4 Response and Off the Ground. “As much as we enjoyed bringing the community together for the day, we very much hope that one day our efforts will no longer be needed, because everyone will love and care for Chippenham as much as we do,” a spokesman said.
