YOU can still eat sweet treats and your favourite meals if you are diagnosed with diabetes; that's the message from Diabetes UK south west groups as part of their Food You Love campaign.

Running as park of Diabetes Week, June 11-17, five delicious recipes are being showcased by five people who have not let living with diabetes stand between them and their favourite food.

The recipes will be presented in groups over an eight-week period and are also available online at

Diabetes UK south west regional head Annika Palmer said: “Enjoying what you eat is one of life’s pleasures, but when it comes to healthy eating, sometimes we all need a bit of inspiration to get us started.

“Every day we get questions from people living with diabetes asking for advice from our experts about what they can or can’t eat. So we hope these tasty recipes for the food we love - but healthier - are a practical answer.”

Diabetes UK say that their latest figures suggest that there are more than 4.5 million people who have diabetes, of which one million have Type 2 diabetes but don’t know they have it because they haven't been diagnosed.

Celebrity chefs including Jamie Oliver and Prue Leith have also lent their support to the campaign by sharing exclusive diabetes-friendly recipes. Mr Oliver is donating a recipe for Mega Veggie Burgers; Prue Leith will be sharing her recipe for Ajiaco-Colombian chicken soup; and Ella Woodward, author of the best-selling Deliciously Ella books, is offering her recipe for Chilli and Ginger Pho.
