Swindon businesses have been urged to apply for loans of up to £1m.

The Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership (SWLEP) is offering the cash to businesses and public sector organisations.

The group’s new £8.8m Growing Places Infrastructure Fund (GPIF) is intended to support organisations invest in infrastructure projects that will result in new jobs or new homes for the area.

Bosses at SWLEP say they are looking for organisations that need capital investment to complete their projects or kick-start stalled projects. The partnership is looking to invest in up to three projects.

John Mortimer, chairman of SWLEP, said: “We are pleased to be able to open a call for GPIF loan investment and to provide much needed infrastructure funding to businesses and organisations in Swindon and Wiltshire.

“We are keen to hear from projects which will help us deliver our priorities for the area and create new jobs and deliver new homes.”

The new Growing Places Infrastructure Fund will offer loans on negotiable repayment terms. The two-stage application process will see shortlisted businesses be tasked with providing detailed project plans, covering areas like project costs and procurement.

Previous rounds of funding by the Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership have supported the re-development of the Kimmerfield site, through the improvements to Fleming Way.

The deadline for applications to the new fund is 12pm on August 4. For more information, visit: www.swlep.co.uk.
