A DATE has been set for the funeral of popular biker Simon Gutteridge who died in a crash earlier this month.

Simon, who was more commonly known to friends and family as Sid, died on June 3 following the accident on the A34 near Kidlington in Oxford.

The 53-year-old motorcyclist was riding a grey and black Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which crashed with a white Volvo lorry.

Since the news was made public, hundreds of people took to social media to pay tribute to Sid who was a bass guitarist in a rock band.

A funeral service is to be held on Wednesday, July 12, at 1.30pm at Kingsdown Crematorium.

To honour his love of biking, Sid will be transported to Kingsdown in a motorcycle and sidecar hearse with a motorcycle procession leaving Pearce Funeral Services in Ermin Street at 1pm.

Sid's family have asked for no flowers but instead a collection plate will be at Kingsdown to raise money for the Salvation Army, to help their work assisting drug and alcohol-dependent people get clean.

The Salvation Army helped Sid get clean from his drug habit back in 2004 and after that, he then worked in the Drug Intervention Programme, first with Wiltshire Police, then with Swindon Borough Council.

He has since dedicated his time to various charities to help other drug users, both in and out of court, and to be rehabilitated.

He spent his spare time running punk rock band the Useless Eaters UK.
