The cleanup process has begun at a farm on Clench Common today following a fire that destroyed a large chick bhouse and two caravans.

Fire crews tackled the blaze at Wernham Farm on Clench Common, Marlborough during the early hours of this morning.

Crews from Malborough, Pewsey, Ramsbury and Swindon attended the scene after alarms were raised at 03.18am this morning.

Gas cylinders were also discovered at the area on fire during the early hours of this morning and took until 6am to extinguish.

Two main jets and a water carrier from Pewsey fire station were used to put out the fire at a Wernham Farm in Clench Common, which is three miles from the centre of Marlborough.

Wernham Farm and Campsite provides sites for up to five caravans and also offers visitors a number of holistic services.

Maggie’s Sanctuary operates from the site and offers spiritual healing and message including animal healing at the picturesque site just outside of Marlborough town centre.

A man assisting the clean-up process said: “The owners have been here since 2.30am sorting things out and are still continuing to work there.”

This afternoon a digger was being used to move metal and clear the area.

A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: "We received a call this morning at 03:18 to reports of a fire at a farm at Clench Common near the A345.

"The initial reports stated it was a shed fire. Three crews; Marlborough, Ramsbury, Swindon and Pewsey and one water carrier from Pewsey were all in attendance.

"On arrival it was found to be a chick house and two caravans that were on fire. Propane cylinders were found at the scene and the crews extinguished the fire using two main jets by 06:00."
