WEDDING winners Gemma Cook and Sean Enevoldsen tied the knot at the weekend in a special ceremony laid on by Swindon Borough Council.
They were the first couple to win a free marriage service in a competition staged at last year’s wedding fair and they said it meant they did have to wait as long as they thought they would before their big day.
“I don’t usually win competitions like that,” said Gemma. “I was only going to look at the fair. We were thinking of making plans.”
They won the prize by picking up stickers from the different stalls and entering the draw but never dreamed it could be them that won.
“I didn’t think anything of it and then I was at work the next day and the phone rang," said Gemma.
"I was so happy.”
Special guests on the day were their children Lakeisha, 12, Layla, five, and tiny Logan who was born just eight weeks before the event.
“It went exactly how we wanted it to,” said Gemma.
“It was brilliant. It was a lovely day.”
Sean, a lift engineer, said he was over the moon and they were planning a honeymoon somewhere hot next year.
Registrar Bobby Bailey said: “Sometimes it can be what stops people getting married, the cost of the actual wedding. It helps make the decision.
“To be able to give something away as part of Swindon Borough Council is a great experience, almost as good as seeing those smiling faces when they are actually married.”
The wedding fair featured dozens of different businesses from dressmakers and confectioners to photographers and musicians.
