WILTSHIRE Mind pulled double duty this week to raise awareness about what they do and highlight world Mental Health Day.

The mental health charity set a stand in the Shires Shopping Centre in Trowbridge, detailing the work they do and the day after a tea and talk day took place in Melksham too.

"It was really nice to get out into the community and talk to people about this hugely important issue," said Carolyn Beale, Wiltshire Mind chief executive.

"People came up to us inquiring about the work we do, people's mental wellbeing and how they could help out.

"Both days were really worthwhile and good fun, especially when we tucked into some cake. We had members of the public and local councillors turn up in what was a very productive and beneficial couple of days."

Wiltshire Mind, which does not receive Government funding, also does counselling, provides six peer support groups and two groups for carers with mental health issues among other things.

"Going into the community and spreading the word about what we do is crucial for our future. It is nice to be proactive," she said.

The charity, which needs around £100,000 a year to carry out its work, lost its funding from Wiltshire Council in 2010 and relies solely on donations.
