A BLUNSDON man has been spared jail despite breaking his bail conditions.

Magistrates told Ryan Nicholas Taylor, 35, of Churchill Avenue, that he could be jailed if he appeared before the bench again.

Taylor appeared before Swindon Magistrates Court on Monday morning, after being arrested by police for twice breaking his bail conditions.

Prosecutor Keith Ballinger said that Taylor had visited a Tesco Express store in Liden and, while at Great Western Hospital, had had contacted a woman his bail conditions banned him from seeing.

Taylor was bailed last month, after pleading not guilty to charges of assault by beating and criminal damage. He will be tried next month.

Defending, Mark Glendenning said: “Mr Taylor accepts he had gone to the Tesco store, although he wasn’t aware it was in Liden.”

He said his client was already at the hospital when the woman he was banned from seeing under his bail conditions arrived. Mr Glendenning said: “There was nowhere else to get treatment.”

Taylor also admitted breaching an earlier post-sentence supervision order. The Probation Service, which brought the charge, said he had missed three supervision appointments. “He hasn’t provided any reason for his failure to attend,” a probation officer said.

Taylor, whose partner is expecting a baby, also owes almost £2,400 to the courts, magistrates heard.

Mr Glendenning said of his client: “He’s effectively put his head in the sand."

For breaching the supervision order, Taylor was given a four-week curfew for which he must wear an electronic tag.

He was also ordered to pay £60 costs to the Probation Service.
