A DRINK-DRIVER caused damage to allotments in Melksham after he collided with a wire fence, a court heard.

Jacek Pienszke, of Methuen Avenue, Melksham, had been drinking with his friends on October 29 when he decided to take his mother’s Vauxhall Vectra for a drive.

He then collided with a wire fence belonging to the allotments and the police were called to scene.

At Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on Friday Pienszke admitted drink-driving, aggravated vehicle taking, and driving without insurance and a licence.

Prosecuting, Kate Prince said that after police arrived at the scene they searched the area and found three men nearby, one of them being Pienszke.

“Pienszke admitted he was the driver of the vehicle and provided a positive breath specimen at the side of the road,” she said.

The 25-year-old was arrested and then breathalysed at the police station where he blew a reading of 71 – the legal limit is 35.

The court heard that as a result of the collision Pienszke had caused damage to his mother’s Vauxhall Vectra.

Defending, Moses Uzodinma-Tawo said Pienszke would not have appeared before the court if had not admitted to any of the offences.

“It is fair to say that is mother is not so pleased with my client. She said they are both working to build up trust once again.”

Mr Uzodinma-Tawo added that the offences were “out of the blue and out of character” for Pienszke.

“He said to me ‘I don’t know why I did it, I was stupid’.”

Magistrates ordered Pienszke to carry out a 12-month community order with 120 hours unpaid work.

He was also banned from driving for 20 months, pay £85 court costs and £85 victim surcharge.
