JEWELLERY shop Pia on Marlborough High Street has shut its doors for the final time and closed its branch after ten years of trading.

The shop’s six workers will now face job searches after being told of the company’s decision to move online exclusively just two weeks before Christmas. The shop, on the High Street, had been a popular store for residents and visitors in the town.

Fiona Hall who has worked at the shop for two years said: “We are all still shocked and surprised, our customers are pretty gutted too.

“Some people get on well shopping online but I prefer to look at our products.

“The job hunt has begun and hopefully we will all find something soon.”

A co-worker added that staff were left shocked with the closure announcement which effected five other Pia shops across the country, including Oxford.

John Beale, managing director of Pia said that rising rental costs in Marlborough High Street as well as challenging operating costs for retail shops in general were factors in the decision to close its store.
