SWINDON Supermarine manager Lee Spalding has set his sights on a fourth Southern League West victory in five games tonight when he takes his side to AFC Totton.

Marine were 2-0 winners at home to play-off rivals Evesham United at the weekend and although they were beaten by Wimborne Town before that, big victories over Slimbridge and Shortwood United remain fresh in the memory.

Saturday’s win at the Webbswood Stadium fired Marine up to fourth in the table and Spalding is keen to repeat the trick at sixth-placed Totton this evening in the hope of strengthening his side’s play-off credentials.

“Things are looking positive at the moment but we are just trying to take it one game at a time. The league is so tight that one win can put you right up there,” said Spalding.

“It is important that we take the confidence and momentum from Saturday’s win into Tuesday’s game against Totton. They are another decent side that are up right up there too, so it is going to be another tough game.

“The lads are confident and in good spirits, so we will go there looking to pick up another win away from home.”

Wimborne are currently one point above Marine in third but Spalding’s side can leapfrog them with victory this evening as the Dorset outfit are without a fixture.

That would put the South Marston side in a strong position to go on and claim a play-off place come the end of the season.

However, with Yate Town down in 12th still only six points shy of the top six, Spalding expects plenty more twists and turns to come over the closing months of the campaign.

“I think it will be this tight all the way until May. I can’t see one team totally breaking away,” said Spalding.

“We have got 10 games left now so it is important we try to win as many games as we can from here until the end of the season.”

Lee Marshall went straight into the starting line-up for Marine against Evesham at the weekend, having returned to the club from North Leigh 24 hours earlier, and Spalding was able to report the matchday squad came through with a clean bill of health.

HIGHWORTH Town go looking for a place in the Wiltshire Senior Cup final tonight when they take on Southern League West side Salisbury in the last four at the neutral venue of Melksham Town’s Oakfields Stadium.

Jeff Roberts’ side finished as runners-up in the competition last season and would meet Chippenham Town in the final with victory this evening, with the National League South team having booked their spot last week.

The Worthians’ Hellenic League Premier Division rivals Royal Wootton Bassett Town are in league action and travel to Oxford City Nomads.
