ADRENALINE seeking teenagers got a kick this week as they scaled to the dizzying heights of some of Chippenham's tallest trees.

Over 130 children and teenagers took to the trees in Monkton Park as they got strapped in for a range of free tree-climbing activities hosted by the Wiltshire Outdoor Learning Team and funded by the Chippenham Local Youth Network.

"It was awesome," Darren Oram, the director of the WOLT, said. "All of our sessions were booked up in advance but we managed to squeeze quite a lot of people in on the second day.

"We've had some really good feedback and it's nice to see the kids enjoying the outdoors, even in the rain.

"Three years ago the Local Youth Network wanted to offer high adrenaline activities in Chippenham and that's what we have been doing ever since.

"We are always oversubscribed but it is so good to see young people wanting to take on something new and challenge themselves."

Children climbed a 7.2m high climbing wall, 10m tall trees, flew down a 40m zip wire and even performed tricks from a 10m high slack line walk.

"The slack line walk was really great," Mr Oram added. "The kids were able to walk out on it and dangle down upside down or do tricks on it. They really enjoyed it.

"We seem to have made a great impression though, as there are talks to bring the climbing wall and the zip line to Chippenham Carnival later this year."
