MELKSHAM Town manager Kieran Baggs believes there is unlikely to be any more transfer activity at the club until pre-season begins following the arrival of a fifth new recruit this week.

Mark Wall has agreed to join Melksham as they begin life as a Southern League West club in 2018-19, having played against Baggs’ side for county rivals Bradford Town in the Toolstation League Premier Division last term.

Wall’s arrival offsets the departure of Chris Allen, who has been snapped up by Frome Town in the Southern League Premier Division.

Omar Simpson, Kyle Phillips, Ross Lye and Jon Davies have also signed for Melksham ahead of the new campaign, while 10 members of last season’s squad have agreed to stay on, with a further three promoted from the youth set-up.

Manager Baggs admits that could well be the conclusion of his recruitment drive until his squad report back for pre-season training on June 27.

“It has been one in, one out this week, and I am really happy with our overall business from the summer,” said Baggs.

“I am happy to get near enough all our business done, so that when we come back for pre-season, everyone knows the squad and the situation.

“Then it is up to the players to prove to myself and Luke (Ballinger, assistant manager) that they are worth a place in the starting XI.

“At the moment, as long as we don’t lose anyone else, the business side of things is pretty much done.

“We have a couple of lads coming on trial for pre-season and there might be someone that stands out and earns themselves a deal.

“There might be one more before that, but if not, I am really happy with how proceedings have gone in regard to transfers.”

Wall was a key man for Bradford last season, appearing 45 times for the Bobcats in total, and Baggs believes he can be an ideal replacement for the departing Allen.

“Mark is someone I have known for a number of years, we used to play at Larkhall together,” said Baggs.

“Last season, he was probably one of the standout players for Bradford. In both games we played against them, he was great. He will fit into our system well.

“We have lost Chris Allen to Frome. He is a great player and a great lad, but he very much relies on his football income and I think that has almost doubled in going to Frome.

“There are no hard feelings there at all because he steps up a standard. We thank him for his efforts and wish him all the best.

“Mark will come in and replace him. He is a similar to Chris technically on the ball, but he will add a little bit more defensively to our game.”

Meanwhile, Melksham have agreed a naming rights deal with INFiLED, who donated the club's new electronic scoreboard, for the naming rights of their Oakfields ground for the next three years from July 1.
