VIEWS are being sought on proposals to redevelop and enhance the Sadlers Mead car park in Chippenham.

A public consultation drop in event for phase two of the Chippenham Station Hub Project has been planned for next week.

Phase one, which is being led by Great Western Railway, includes improvements to the station booking hall, café, forecourt and station accessibility.

Improvements to the booking hall and café were completed earlier this year.

Phase two, which is being led by Wiltshire Council, in partnership with Good Energy, includes proposals for developing a modern office and multi-level car park on the Sadlers Mead car park site.

In addition to increasing car parking provision, the site offers Good Energy an opportunity to develop a new HQ premises, enabling them to remain as a major employer in Chippenham.

Designs and plans will be available to view at the consultation event and all proposals will be subject to the usual planning process.

John Mortimer, chair of the SWLEP, said: “We have committed to investing £16m in the refurbishment of Chippenham Railway station which has enabled a potential further £18m of private match funding. This investment will enhance the station facilities and the development of surrounding land for improved car parking, commercial property and residential property.”

Pauline Church, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Salisbury Recovery, said: “Wiltshire Council recognises the strategic importance of high value businesses to the economy and community and invests resource into close working to help ensure their ongoing presence and growth.

"This proposal provides an opportunity to retain Good Energy in Chippenham, kick-start the regeneration of the railway station area, and provide additional car parking in an area where a shortage has been identified.”

Francoise Woodward, People and Culture Director at Good Energy added: “We are delighted to be able to progress plans for Good Energy’s new HQ. This will provide our people with a fantastic, highly sustainable workplace and will help us to attract people and investment into Chippenham."

The consultation event will take place on Wednesday, July 25, 1pm to 7pm at Wiltshire Council’s Monkton Park offices and all are welcome to attend.
