ROYAL Wootton Bassett Town made it two wins from two at the start of the new Hellenic League Premier Division season with a 2-1 victory at home to local rivals Fairford Town tonight.

While Bassett have six points, Fairford remain pointless, as do Shrivenham after they were thumped 6-1 at Windsor.

Bassett got off to the ideal start and led with just two minutes on the clock when Josh Shama broke the deadlock.

The hosts were able to take a two-goal lead into the interval when Dale Richards lashed home a spectacular strike.

Fairford rallied after the break but had to wait until stoppage time to make it count on the scoreboard when Ben Lodge notched, however, it proved to be nothing more than a consolation.

Elsewhere, Shrivenham suffered a second heavy defeat in four days at Windsor, having lost 5-1 at home to Reading City in Saturday’s season opener.

Shrivvy were caught napping early on and Keaton August put the hosts ahead after six minutes.

Gareth Davies’ side were 2-0 in arrears before the midway point in the half when August struck again.

The visitors then missed a big chance to get into the match when Nathan Blackford saw a penalty saved by the Windsor keeper .

Sam Ockwell was able to give Shrivvy a lifeline late in the half, but the deficit was two goals again in stoppage time as Matt Stockill got Windsot’s third.

The one-way traffic continued in the second half and further goals from Jamie Di Giuseppe, Matt Woods and Dan Roberts capped a miserable night for Shrivvy.
