ROYAL Wootton Bassett boss Sam Collier says he was delighted to see his troops play ugly as they booked their spot in the next round of the FA Cup.

Collier took his troops to Leighton Town on Saturday and they were forced to dig deep as they picked up a narrow 1-0 success, courtesy of a strike from Bradley Pagliaroli.

The away side were also reduced to 10 men after Daniel Lachacz picked up his second yellow card with 20 minutes to play.

With a home tie against Lydney Town up next, Collier says he was happy to see his team continue their good start to the season with them now having earned three wins out of three.

“They were a physical side and we knew that is what we should expect and we adapted our team from the first two games that we have played,” he said.

“The first two (league) games were quite comfortable but Saturday was a real test for us but we overcame it well.

“The most pleasing thing from the game is how we had to dig out the win, we went 1-0 up through a good goal and I thought we controlled the first half.

“We knew in the second half that they would come out.

"The pitch was horrendous and it was quite small as well to we couldn’t get it down and pass it like we wanted to.

“They were a physical side so for us to ride the storm for 20-25 minutes with 10 men was extremely pleasing and the players deserve the win.

“Things are coming together and we are doing okay. The money from the Cup is massive to us as a club because we don’t have any.

“The financial rewards from the game are massive.”

In the Hellenic League Premier Division, Shrivenham picked up their first point of the campaign at home after a 1-1 draw with Virginia Water.

Lewis Petrie put the hosts in the lead with a first-half strike but saw it cancelled out by the visitors less than 10 minutes later though Liam Whyte.

Fairford Town saw their FA Cup campaign brought to an abrupt end as they were beaten 2-0 by Hadley, who notched either side of half-time.

In Division One West, New College got off to a poor start in their first game of the season as they lost 8-0 at home to Cirencester Town.
