SUPERMARINE manager Lee Spalding says this season will be a step into the unknown for his side ahead of their clash with Metropolitan Police.

The Southern League Premier Division South got their first points of the season on Tuesday evening when they took a point away to Merthyr Town in a 2-2 draw.

Marine are on the road again this weekend, where they will look to stop Metropolitan Police making it three wins out of three.

Looking to that fixture, Spalding says he hasn’t been able to watch his club’s latest counterparts but is expecting a tough test nonetheless.

“We have had a little bit of feedback on them and from what I am told, they are quite a young side,” he said.

“They’re obviously in good form with two wins out of two so we are expecting another tough game for us.

“We are going into the unknown a little bit because I haven’t seen them play with my own eyes, I have seen little clips but that’s not the same.

“As we go through the season we will learn more about the league and the teams so I think the first few months will be a little bit of a learning curve

“Some teams I’ll be able to go and watch if they are more local, but it is down to me now to go out and watch games and see what we are up against.

“Every club in this league will be tough and so far the two teams we have had so far have been very good.

“We’ve showed some positive signs, I’m still more concerned with what we do other than what our opponents are doing.”

With their first point on the board after their trip to Wales, Spalding says there was plenty to like about the performance and that he wants to see similar levels on Saturday.

“We were under no illusions on Tuesday, we always knew it was going to be tough because we have been there before,” he added.

“They were vocal and you knew what they’d do and they played some really good stuff to be fair to them.

“We more than matched them and I was happy with a point but it was one of those games where it was a disappointing penalty to concede.

“The performance was good, we looked very compact and passed it really well. Everyone put in a really good shift.”
