HIGHWORTH Town open their Southern League Division One West campaign on Saturday when hosting AFC Totton at the Elms Recreation Ground.

Roberts’ men were dealt an early season blow when they were dumped out of the FA Cup at the extra preliminary round stage after losing to Windsor on Tuesday night in a replay having drawn the initial fixture 3-3 last weekend.

However Town will be seeking to return to winning ways when starting their league campaign at home on Saturday against a Totton side that recently announced a partnership with Premier League club Southampton.

The contest will signal the start of a busy campaign for Highworth, who after Saturday’s fixture will travel to Slimbridge before hosting Cirencester Town on Bank Holiday Monday.

Town boss Roberts will be looking to make a positive start as the club marks the start of a new era in the fourth division of non-league football having secured promotion from the Hellenic League last season.

Despite a late dip in form towards the end of last season, which consequently dropped Highworth to third in the division - one place outside the promotion zone - meetings with the Football Association resulted in the Worthians being presented with the chance to climb the non-league ladder.

Saturday’s game kicks off at 3pm.
