SWINDON Supermarine have lost the services of defender Ryan Morgan and midfielder Antonio Gerrish, who have left the club with immediate effect.

Morgan has opted to join recently promoted club Highworth Town while Gerrish makes the switch to Cirencester Town, both teams of which feature in the Southern League Division One South.

The news was revealed following Swindon Supermarine’s dramatic 2-2 draw at Merthyr Town on Tuesday night, a game in which Lee Spalding’s troops recorded their first league points of the campaign.

A loss and a draw thus far means the Webbswood Stadium side have made a slow start in what is their first season competing at tier three level.

The club tweeted: “The management team and the board would like to thank both players for their time at Marine and we hope they have a great time at their new clubs.

“Many thanks, and good luck for the coming season. You will always get a warm welcome at the Webbswood.”

Meanwhile the draw for the preliminary round of the Southern League Cup was made on Friday morning.

Swindon Supermarine have been drawn at home to Yate Town, a fixture that will take place on Tuesday, September 4, at 7.45pm.

The club was unfortunate not to be picked as one of the 44 teams that received an automatic bye past the competition’s first stage.

Yate Town are this year involved in the same division Supermarine earned promotion from last season, and start their league campaign today with a trip to Thatcham Town.

But following a positive string of pre-season results, Lee Spalding’s troops can expect for a tough encounter.

Marine continue their Premier Division South campaign today against Metropolitan Police in a further away trip. Kick off is at 3pm.

Further away trips to AFC Dunstable in the FA Cup and a local tie against Salisbury will round off the opening month.
