PHIL Brown says the current buoyant mood within the Swindon Town changing room is amongst the best he has experienced as a manager.

Brown, who has previously won promotion to the Premier League with Hull City, has guided Town to a six-match unbeaten run early in the new season and they will be looking to extend that when they host Bury in League Two today.

Town are hunting a third win on the bounce against the Shakers, having beaten both Morecambe in the league and Newport County in the Checkatrade Trophy 1-0 in their last two outings.

Swindon are currently seventh in the table after seven league fixtures, four points off the summit, and Brown says there is a feel-good factor around the Energy Check County Ground at present.

“It is one of the best atmospheres I have sampled for a long time, I really mean that,” said Brown.

“I have got young and old mixed together. For the first time, I don’t have too many in the middle. They are either at the top end in terms of their experience, or the bottom end waiting to get to that middle piece.

“There are one or two players that fit into that middle category of 26 and above and not over the 30 mark, where you have got the experience and you have also got the legs and the energy.

“It is really interesting and the banter is really good – I am enjoying being in the changing room.

“A lot of times the manager needs to get out of the changing room to allow the banter to go ahead. I feel I am part of some of it, but I know I have to remove myself from some of it and not get too involved.

“But it’s nothing than any other changing room would be if you had won two games back to back 1-0 and six without defeat.”

After two 1-0 wins in a row in their last two matches, Brown would settle for a third victory by that scoreline against Bury.

Although content to take a narrow success, Brown says supporters should still expect to see plenty of exciting football at SN1 this afternoon.

“I will happily have another 1-0,” said Brown.

“I know supporters don’t want to hear that, but in my humble opinion, if I am a Swindon Town supporter, I will be coming on Saturday, for sure.

“The style of football, I want them to come and see. We are playing open and entertaining football, regardless of whether it’s 1-0 or 3-2.

“We are creating chances, we are passing the ball in the right manner and we have got players that can play.

“But I need that mentality of ‘thou shalt not pass’. If that comes with the playing side of things, hopefully it will be a good day for us.”
