Chippenham security guard assaulted partner

Former Emery Gate security guard Chris Laflin admitted assaulting the mother of his child and smashing up her car in a drunken jealous rage when he appeared before Chippenham magistrates on Wednesday.

Laflin, 23, of Waters Edge Pewsham, Chippenham, also pleaded guilty to assaulting another woman.

Tessa Hingston, prosecuting, said Laflin and his former partner had previously had a good relationship but on the night of April 27 both had been drinking.

She said: "His former partner had been to a pub and accepts she was flirting with a man called Skid. He came back to her home and at 1.30am the defendant called round and was angry.

"He was asked to leave and upon leaving he picked up a manhole cover and smashed it through her car window. It was completely embedded in the rear window.

"He said she was angry about her car and began punching him and behaving aggressively. He said he tried to defend himself and pushed her off."

The court heard how his former partner's friend was also pushed when she came to her friend's aid.

Andrew Watts Jones, defending, told the court Laflin, who has no previous convictions, was best friends with Skid but upon hearing his ex girlfriend was flirting with him became jealous.

He said: "My client was employed as a security guard and used to help the police catch offenders. He is a man of good character. He was granted unconditional bail until June 4.
