A 41-YEAR-OLD man from Westbury stands to win £1m from bookmakers if a UFO visits Earth during the next 12 months.
Geologist Lawrence Tout has bet a £1,000 at odds of 1000-1 with bookmakers William Hill that there will be a major UFO sighting in the next year and that sighting will then be confirmed by either the UK Prime Minister or US President.
Mr Tout, of Dilton Marsh, thought the event would have happened on Tuesday after reading channelled messages from Australian psychic Blossom Goodchild on her website.
And even though no little green men were spotted this week, Mr Tout is convinced it will happen soon.
He said: “I’m not a gambling man. I invest in the stock market, which might be considered a gamble during the current economic climate, but i’m quite adverse to gambling and usually cautious with my money.
“But this is a win win situation because not only will I get a million pounds but Blossom Goodchild’s prophecy will be proven correct.
“Although it didn’t happen on October 14, I still believe 100 per cent that it will happen in the next year.”
At first Mr Tout was only offered odds of 50-1 by Graham Sharpe, William Hill’s media relations director.
He said: “I finally managed to cajole Mr Sharpe to offer odds of 1000-1 after I pointed out that even the odds against cutting your foot off with the lawnmower were 3,500-1, and you can not really compare such a mundane task to one of such galactic proportions now can you?.
“My gratitude goes out to Mr Sharpe who was such a good sport and who has a history of taking some more wackier bets in his time from members of the public “He was no pushover though. He made it conditional that the UFO must not only be visible for a period of six hours or longer but also that the sighting must be confirmed by either the UK Prime Minister or the President of the USA.”
Mr Sharpe said: “We’ve been taking bets on UFO and alien sightings for years. I’ve been doing the job for over 40 years now and there’s always been a fascination with space.
“We even had bets that a UFO would arrive at the opening or closing of the Beijing Olympics.
“But I was a little surprised that someone would be prepared to bet £1,000 on an event that would be difficult to prove and that’s why we added the conditions.”
According to Blossom Goodchild’s messages, the craft will be of enormous size and will be visible for 72 hours somewhere in the Southern Hemisphere.

It would be very difficult to tell a space alien from a Dilton Marsh inhabitant I'd have thought.
