Although they are renowned for bringing good luck to their owners, the number of black cats looking for homes in Wootton Bassett is at an all time high this year.
Staff at the town’s branch of Cat’s Protection are baffled as to why the felines are so difficult to rehome but hope the Halloween season will encourage people to come forward.
Duncan Thom, at the Cats Protection’s Wootton Bassett and District Branch said: “We don’t know why they seem to be less popular than other colours, but we have many black cats at the moment and would love to see them find new homes.
“Since they are considered to be lucky, giving one a second chance could bring good fortune to you both.”
The charity currently has 24 cats in their care and are urging members of the public to come forward if they think they could offer a suitable home for a feline friend.
