A TRIBUTE has been paid to a Wroughton priest who died this week.
Former Parish Priest of St Joseph’s church in Wroughton Father Michael Cleary died on Tuesday after a long battle with poor physical health.
The Reverend Monsignor Canon Richard Twomey, priest of Holy Rood church in Swindon, told the Adver: “He was a very fine priest, very well liked and respected at Wroughton. He was also very involved within the community.”
Father Michael served at the Wroughton church until 2004 and spent the last years of his career as parish priest of St Mary-on-the-Quay in Bristol.
Father Michael’s body will repose in the chapel of rest at Thomas Davis Undertakers, Southville Road, Southville, Bristol, if people wish to pay their personal respects.
Mass will be held on Tuesday at 5.30pm at the St Mary-on-the-Quay. After the Mass there will be a vigil for until midnight.
Requiem Mass will be held on Wednesday at noon at the Cathedral of St Peter and Paul, Clifton, Bristol.
Donations to Cafod, one of Father Michael’s favourite charities, are suggested instead of flowers.
