Children’s charity, Action for Children is appealing for local people to sign up and take part in a daring abseil off the 100 ft roof of the Great Western Hospital in Swindon to raise money to support local children.
The challenging fundraising event promises to give participants a unique experience to remember, as well as raising much needed funds to buy outdoor play equipment for the Action for Children Cotswold Community School, a therapeutic centre at Ashton Keynes, for children and young people who have experienced extreme difficulties in their early years.
Four brave abseilers from the Great Western Hospital have already agreed to take part and have received their fundraising packs including a free Santa suit for them to wear on the day and want to encourage others to dig deep and take up this daring challenge by getting involved and signing up.
Communications Officer for the Great Western Hospital, Teri Stevans said: “I’ve never done abseiling before and I’m really pleased that some of my colleagues are joining me, it should be brilliant fun and I’m looking forward to it."
Action for Children Regional Fundraiser, Shelagh Hillier said: “The Great Western Hospital is a superb local landmark and has never been abseiled down before so this is an amazing opportunity.
"It’s a perfect venue for both first time and more experienced abseilers looking for the ultimate adrenaline rush.
"We’re asking local people to take some time out of their busy Saturday to help us raise over £10,000 for some very special children this Christmas."
