More than seven hundred people crowded into Devizes library on Saturday to be part of the Aliens , Monsters and Sci-Fi event.
Fans of all ages attended a programme of events which included writing workshops and book signings by guest children’s science fiction author David Johnson, quizzes, costume competitions and interactive story telling, sessions.
An array of authentic Star wars and Dr Who characters were on hand to talk to fans and at intervals stalked the town centre as well.
Guest characters were also on hand to talk about model making and special effects techniques. Several remote control model Daleks were also on hand for children to experience operating.
Mr Johnson said: “The principle aim of this event was to get young people to come into the library to support the National Year of reading.
"They are far more interested in reading and writing if they get a chance to talk to a sci fi author and meet characters from their favourite shows like Star Wars and Doctor Who.
"If they are interested in something, they are far more likely to want to get involved. It was a highly successful and fun event which brought a lot of new people into the library.”
Mr Johnson will also be holding creative writing workshops at Bromham and Colerne schools.
