A VILLAGE Cub pack may be forced to close in December because no one is prepared to run it.
Stuart Matthews has been the Downton pack’s leader for 25 years but has struggled to get to meetings since moving to Southampton for family reasons.
He said: “I have sent letters to the parents and made it generally known for 18 months that we need help, but no one has come forward.
“I will be finishing next month, and there is a real chance that the pack will close.”
Twenty-one boys attend the pack meetings at the Barford Lane Scout HQ on Thursdays.
And Mr Matthews, a 62-year-old retired microbiologist, believes there is scope in the village for a second group, if only there were adults ready to help organise it.
Would-be leaders will be interviewed, CRB checked and given training. Anyone interested is asked to contact Mr Matthews in the first instance on 02380 661478.
