Students scoop up awards


STUDENTS from Wiltshire College in Trowbridge were presented with awards for outstanding achievements at a ceremony held at the Arc Theatre.

The annual Celebration of Success on Thursday was attended by more than 40 students.

Some achieved excellence in the course of their study; some made enormous progress through their commitment and hard work while others made a great contribution to the life of the college community.

The awards were presented by Brendan Wall, headteacher of St Augustine’s Catholic College and covered a variety of course subjects including Art & Design, Childcare, Travel & Tourism, Carpentry & Joinery and Catering.

Among the 15 students awarded special trophies were James Savory, from Trowbridge, who won the Civic Society Award for Contribution to the Community, and Christopher Maslen, from Bradford on Avon, who received the Wilts Wholesale Electrical Award for Electrical Installation.

Matthew Rea, from Chippenham, won The Apprentice Award for Excellent Results in Work Based Learning, while Elizabeth Christy, of Trowbridge, took home the George Bright Achievement Award for her National Diploma in Performing Arts.

Wiltshire College Principal, Di Dale, said:”Celebration of Success evenings are when we see students who have been able to transform their lives through their college learning experience.

“It’s a great opportunity for parents and college staff to feel proud of students’ achievements.”

Other awardees included Tadd Ballam from Chapmanslade, who won The Brickwork Trophy Award, Alice Foote from Westbury, who won the Outstanding Performance Award for Beauty Therapy NVQ Level 1, Emma O’Brien from Warminster and Latisha Clair Grant (known as Clair) from Trowbridge, who won the Outstanding Performance Award For The Hairdressing NVQ level 3, Kayleigh Daysh from Bradford on Avon who won the Outstanding Performance award for catering NVQ Level 1, Billie Toye from Trowbridge who won the Most Improved Student award for the Catering NVQ Level 2, Luke Thompson from Westbury who won the Outstanding Performance award for the NVQ Administration Level 2, Heather Cronin from Trowbridge, who won the Apprentice Award For Significant Progress For Work Based Learning, Philip Hudd from Trowbridge, who won the Mark Wilkinson Award For Work Based Learning, Sam Mumford from Kington St Michael, Chippenham, who won the Plumbing Work Based Learner Of The Year Award, Kerrie Barrell from Trowbridge, who won the E2E award for the Entry To Employment.
