The house fire in Little Somerford is at the home of artist Clare Inskip.
Mrs Inskip, who is believed to live alone, moved to the listed manor house in the village about six years ago and immediately became involved in the community.
She runs art courses and exhibitions at her home and also organises painting holidays.
Wiltshire County Councillor Toby Sturgis, who lives in Great Somerford, who is a friend said: "The first I heard of the fire was when someone arrived at my home this morning and told me the road is closed."
Manor Farm has a Georgian facade and a much earlier and larger area at the back.
