FOUR Guides from the 1st Boscombe Down Guide Unit have been presented with their Baden-Powell Challenge Awards by Spire FM’s Chris Ewington.

The Baden-Powell Challenge Award is for girls who have been Guides for at least two years and have taken part in a wide range of unit activities, including gaining at least two interest badges and taking part in unit camps, sleepovers and community events.

A spokesman for the unit said: “Only about 10 per cent of Guides actually start the Baden-Powell Challenge Award, and so to have four girls in one unit finish it is very impressive.”

The four 14-year-olds have spent the last two years working towards the award which involved completing 10 challenges, including organising a cooking competition, learning to knit, completing a personal fitness campaign and finding out about global environmental issues.

The final part of the award saw the girls taking part in a challenge adventure where they completed a weekend away either visiting places in London found on the monopoly board, learning about international issues or holding a ‘chicken and crackers’ weekend party.

All four of the girls have now moved up to Ranger Guides and were presented with their awards by Chris Ewington during a special presentation evening hosted by the other Rangers.
