Holiday cabins of a different design, size and location to what was agreed with planning officers have been given approval by Kennet councillors.
The three cabins at Rendells Farm, All Cannings, have split opinion in the village, councillors were told.
Mark Lawrence, who lives at Croft House next to the site, said holiday makers in one of the cabins would be able to overlook his garden and swimming pool.
He said: “I have known the owner, Keith Baron, for some time and I have no objection to him seeing into my garden, but the people who will be in the cabin will be complete strangers.”
Kennet received ten letters in support of the plan and 14 against. One of the supporters said: “I can’t see what the fuss is about. Previously a huge two-storey black corrugated iron building and a single-storey plain pig shed stood there. They were an eyesore.”
But an objector said: “The size, shape and appearance on the cabins are not an accident but a deliberate attempt to flout the approved scheme.”
Coun Tony Molland said “The owner has flagrantly disregarded the conditions of the previous planning permission.”
Coun Laura Mayes said: “To completely disregard location, design and size is outrageous.”
Coun Alan Wood said: “It sticks in my craw. We were promised log cabins and we have got something more appropriate to a mobile home park.
“Sadly, though, we are not in a position to refuse the application.”
Councillors decided to go along with their officer’s recommendation and allow the new scheme.
