Queen’s Crescent School in Chippenham, which boast of having persuading boys that visiting an art gallery is fun, has won a Gold Artsmark.
Only 15 per cent of schools qualify for the award, which is given by the Arts Council.
Headteacher Gill Clark said more than 100 pupils had looked around art galleries this year.
“Some of our Year 6 boys came away saying they never thought an art gallery could be so interesting, so it has really changed their attitudes, which is brilliant,” she said.
She described the school’s approach to the arts as very broad and said that a new music professional has made a significant impact on raising the standard of music in the school.
She said: “I’m delighted that the Arts Council has recognised Queen’s Crescent’s dynamic arts education programme.
“I’m not a particularly arty person myself but my staff are very talented.”
To receive an Artsmark, a school must dedicate at least ten per cent of teaching time to the arts.
