Safari park's sea lion colony has three reasons to celebrate

Longleat Safari Park near Warminster has unveiled three new additions to its sea lion colony.

The pups, all born within the last three weeks, join the seven adult sea lions which inhabit the park’s Half Mile Lake. The male and two female pups were born in the height of a heatwave.

Mark Tye, head of section, said: “During this time, the pups have been sheltering on the beach as they gather strength for the first momentous swim”.

Sea lion pups usually nurse for up to six months, although they learn to swim and hunt with their mothers from about two months old.
