The husband of fatal crash victim Leanne Harris has paid tribute to his wife and thanked the community in Corsham for its supporrt.

Mrs Harris, 29, died when her Land Rover Discovery was in collision with a Biffa lorry on the A4 at Corsham on Thursday morning. Two of her children were in the car at the time.

Leanne Harris, 29, had dropped her eldest daughter, 11-year-old Kirsten off at school just before the accident happened at 8.45am.

Her two other children were in the car with her when the accident happened - 18-month-old Cameron, who fractured his clavical shoulder blade but is recovering at home, and six-year-old Caitlin, who escaped uninjured but is suffering from shock.

Mr Harris said: “I would like to thank the people who have helped us in so many ways since this nightmare began. We have only lived in Corsham for two months, but Leanne, the children and I had settled in well.

"We really thought we had landed on our feet, everyone here is so friendly and we were looking forward to bringing the children up together in such a great place."

The family had moved to the area from the East Midlands but Mr Harris said he will not return there despite the tragedy.

"Whilst I have lost my dear Leanne, I intend to stay and let the children benefit from the warmth and support we have received, which is helping to make life a bit easier for the children and I," he said.

"For the sake of the children I will endeavour to bring them up as Leanne would have wanted, as she was such a great mother and a fantastic lady."

Mr Harris thanked people who had stopped and tried to help his family at the scene of the accident.

"I know that there were many people who stopped and helped Leanne and the children at the scene. We would like to thank each and every one of them from our hearts.

"If you haven’t spoken to the police, I ask that you contact PC Mark Burnett based at Chippenham Roads Policing Unit, as any information you have could help the investigation into what happened."

He said the funeral will be in the Corsham area but details ahev yet to be finalised.

"We are arranging a service which will be held in Corsham so that Leanne will be close to us. Further details will be released once they have been finalised."
