Melksham woman's cycle effort inspired by personal tragedies

A Melksham woman has raised £125 for the British Heart Foundation by cycling more than 50 miles in memory of some of her closest relatives.

Judith Mott, from Hazelwood Road, decided to take part in the London to Brighton Bike Ride on June 21 along with 27,000 other riders, who raised a combined total of £4m for the charity.

Mrs Mott, 44, said she and a friend Paula Poulter, who lives in Essex, had been inspired to take part.

“My mum did the same ride in 1986 when she was in her 50s and seeing some of the photos made me really want to take part,” she said.

Mrs Mott was cycling the race in memory of her father Joseph Joyce, from Broughton Gifford, who suffered a stroke in 2003 and her stepfather Robert Mott, who died in the same year at the age of 61 from heart problems.

“It was a lovely day, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and it wasn’t too cold or too hot,” she added.
