Footpath light in Calne is finally fixed

Pensioner Manette Bird, of Amberly Close, is delighted that a street light near her home has been fixed after five years.

Mrs Bird, 67, was concerned that the unlit footpath running behind her home was putting school children at risk.

She said: “The light was put up five years ago but had never worked.

“It has now finally been fixed as a result of me badgering every man in a yellow coat I saw walking down the footpath.

“I am delighted that it is working and I think the path is now a lot safer for everyone who uses it.”

The footpath is regularly used by children and parents as a shortcut to Fynamore Primary School and the Beversbrook Medical Centre, and Mrs Bird would not walk down the path with her young grandchildren.

She said: “What concerned me is that children use the footpath to get to and from school.

“If they stayed behind for a club, it was dark by the time they walk home.”

Mrs Bird is not sure who repaired the light, but hopes the path can now be used safely.
