Malmesbury Carnival brings on star acts

Chart topper Sandi Thom and Glastonbury performer Jon Allen will both be performing at the Party in the Park as part of the Malmesbury Carnival.

Twenty-seven-year-old Thom, from Scotland, secured number one in the UK singles chart in 2005 with the song, I Wish I was a Punk Rocker.

Singer songwriter Allen will appear at the August 29 gig in St Aldhelm’s Mead following a European tour supporting Seal while Thom has just completed a tour of Canada.

She is now back in the studio working on her new album.

Also on the bill for the weekend music extravaganza are jazz favourites the Patsy Gamble Band and local talent such as Kaiche, The Flying Monk Band and guitarist Simon Temperton.

Rounding out the show will be winners of the Malmesbury’s Got Talent contest which will take place on August 28.

Carnival Committee chairman Andy Dawson said the Party in the Park would be a great addition. He said: “It is certainly a real coup for the Carnival.

“We wanted to expand on the great music event we held last year in the Cloister Gardens. Malmesbury deserves the biggest and best show we could put on.”

He added: “We had to bring in some headline acts to make sure the event paid for itself. That will allow us to showcase some of the best local talent.

“We are always looking to bring something new to carnival and increase its audience. Hopefully there will be something for everyone to enjoy.”
