Hundreds wear pink to say goodbye to Malmesbury's Georgie

Hundreds of pink clad mourners filled Malmesbury Abbey today to pay their respects to 13-year-old Georgie Brock.

There was standing room only at the funeral of the Malmesbury School pupil who died last month after a battle with leukaemia.

Georgie’s Mum Lucy died six years ago from cervical cancer, so Georgie lived with her grandparents.

The Abbey was awash with pink, Georgie’s favourite colour, as mourners crammed in at the back and round the sides of the sanctuary.

A photograph of a bright pink Porsche Carerra adorned the front of the service sheet, Georgie’s favourite car.

In attendance was a large contingent of pupils from Malmesbury School, including headteacher Tim Gilson who read a passage from the Bible during the service.

Her father Steve Motti read out a tribute from Georgie’s half sister Tamara.

It said: “We were always close but before the end we were closer than ever.

“I hope she knew that I was always there for her.”

Georgie’s Aunt, Allie Waghorn, described her niece’s love of fashion and of animals.

She also said: “Georgie wanted to live as normal a life as possible and had returned to school, guides and youth group.

“She had a dream of one day having a pink Porsche Carrera.

“She was cruelly snatched away from us but we will never forget her.”

Abbey vicar Neill Archer paid tribute to her Christian faith.

He said: “I’m a middle aged vicar so Georgie and I didn’t have much in common.

“But one thing we did share was our faith.

“Her faith was nurtured by her family, by St Joseph’s School and by the Catholic Church.

“And we were pleased to have her join us at the Friday Night Thing and our midweek Bible study.

“But she always made it clear she was a Catholic Christian and we weren’t going to tempt her over to the dark side of the Church of England.”

“For those of us who share her faith there is now hope that she is finally healed.

“I do quite like the idea of driving around Malmesbury in a pink Porsche so maybe one day we will have two things in common.”

He added: “This was a day we hoped would never come.

“We mourn her loss but can celebrate her life.”
