A driver and his passenger had a lucky escape when their car rolled down a bridge embankment and came to rest against a set of spiked railings last night.
The accident near Westbury Railway Station happened just after 6pm, when fire crews, police and an ambulance called to the scene found two men had escaped from the blue Suzuki Swift without injury.
The car was heading down Station Road towards Westbury, having crossed the railway bridge, when the accident happened.
After crashing through the wooden fence it rolled down the embankment to come to rest above the approach road to Westbury station.
Phil Chamberlain, watch manager for Westbury fire service, said: “We were told it happened in Station Road, but when we got there we found the car had come off Station Road and rolled down an embankment and crashed onto railings.
“Our job was mainly to make things safe as there was petrol leaking from the car and so it was our job to make sure this was taken care of by absorbing it.”
