Calne police are moving in to the town hall on Monday when work starts on a new station.
The police station is being rebuilt because the current building is in poor condition and does not facilitate modern policing or have appropriate access for visitors. The old building is also larger than is actually required resulting in expensive overheads and maintenance costs.
To enable the building work to begin, as of Monday November 23 officers will move out of the station and set up base in the Council Chamber Meeting Room in the Town Hall.
Chief Inspector Gavin Williams said: "I am really pleased to announce that work will shortly commence on the new building of Calne Police Station. This will ensure that Sergeant Phil Connor and his team have a modern, purpose built facility to work from within the town.
"While building work takes place Officers will work from the Council Chamber Meeting room which Calne Town Council has kindly given us use of.
"This will ensure that there is a continued visible Police presence within Calne until the permanent base is completed.
"The Neighbourhood Policing Team will also have access to facilities at Chippenham Police Station.
"This next stage is really exciting and I am grateful to Calne Town Council for their support in the use of their facilities whilst the work takes place."
Building work is due to be completed in June 2010, ready for occupation the following month. Anyone with inquiries regarding the new police station can contact the Estates Department on 01380 734060 or e-mail estates@wiltshire.pnn.police.uk
