Devizes man's site has star backing

Music legend Midge Ure has joined forces with Devizes publisher Matt Stanley to launch a website for up and coming bands and artists to get exposure.

Mr Stanley, of Longcroft Road, Devizes, is the managing director of the website, www.tunited.com The concept for the website was dreamt up by Midge Ure, who lives near Bath, in 2006 after he saw how illegal downloading was ruining the music industry.

Midge was the lead singer of 1980s band Ultravox and he co-wrote and produced Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas Time.

Tunited will launch in January and bands and artists have until December 11 to submit a song to be considered for the top 100 profile artists to be featured on the website.

Mr Stanley, 39, said: “We are trying to put the value back into the music business. All artists’ music will be easily accessible through downloading and streaming with all profits going to the artist. Tunited’s charts will then help A&Rs and fans to find the cream of new music.”

Mr Stanley was was born in Devizes and went to Devizes School. He went to university in London but returned ten years ago when he started working in the publishing industry.

He was doing some consultancy work when he heard about Tunited and applied for the job of managing director.
