The bicentenary of the Kennet and Avon Canal will loom large in an exhibition at this year’s Best of Britain and Ireland exhibition.
VisitWiltshire, set up to promote tourism in the county, will be exhibiting at the national event at Olympia in London next month and will highlight anniversaries that affect Wiltshire this year.
First and foremost there is the 200th anniversary of the Kennet and Avon Canal, which has its headquarters in Devizes, and was completed in 1810.
Other anniversaries include 175 years of the Great Western Railway, and 200 years of ancient Wiltshire archaeology.
Alun Williams, head of VisitWiltshire said: “Last year we experienced one of the highest ever in terms of visitor figures and with all the new openings and anniversaries in 2010 we’re expecting the same and more for 2010.
“The great tourism offering in the county is evident in our new brochures, which will be available on the stand at the exhibition.
“We have more products included in our guides than before in terms of graded accommodation and fun attractions.”
