Wiltshire's director of public health, Maggie Rae, is urging people who haven't been for a vaccination against swine flu to take up the offer.
Her message comes as the National Pandemic Flu Service, a telephone service, will stand down tomorrow, seven months after it was launched at the height of the first wave of the pandemic.
From now on people who suspect they have swine flu should stay at home and contact their GP who will be able to authorise antivirals as appropriate.
Mrs Rae said: “The vaccine is our best line of defence against swine flu and we urge anyone who is invited for a vaccination, either for themselves or for their child, to take up the offer of immunisation.
“Although the rates of swine flu are decreasing people are still susceptible and some patients have become very poorly with complications. Immunisation is especially important because swine flu is expected to be the predominant flu virus during the 2010 flu season, so those people who have been offered the vaccination but haven’t yet had it have still got time and should talk their GP.”
