A new town clerk will start work at Westbury Town Council on Monday.
Keith Harvey, who was born and bred in the town, will take over from Les Fry, who has retired after 12 years in the job.
Mr Harvey was a retained firefighter in the town for 32 years, including eight years as station commander.
He is married with two children and two grandchildren He was a pupil at both Westbury Junior School and Westbury Secondary Modern School, which is now Matravers.
After leaving school he worked for civil engineers AE Farr Ltd in Bridge House, Station Road, in the finance department, where he was based for 23 years until 1990.
He then worked for Hochtief Construction and was based in Westbury, Melksham and Swindon in both the finance and human resources departments.
In addition to his close working links with Westbury, he has played football for Westbury Youth and Westbury United for 20 years and is a former member of the Red Cross and St John’s Ambulance.
He said he was looking forward to taking on the “challenging role” of town clerk.
