Pancake flipping skills will be put to the test in west Wiltshire towns from this weekend as the annual pancake race season gets under way.

Trowbridge pancake race will be held on Saturday in Fore Street from 10am.

There will be four different categories; ladies, gentleman, children and also a relay. The race will be along the pedestrianised street, and there will be three set locations for pancake flips along the way.

Winners will receive a trophy and all competitors will be supplied with free pancakes and frying pans.

Bradford on Avon will host its race on Shrove Tuesday across the town bridge.

The race starts at 4pm with a dash one way and pancake flipping on the way back.

All money raised at the event will be going to the Wiltshire Air Ambulance appeal and Bradford on Avon Chamber of Commerce.

Competitors are also expected to come in fancy dress.

Arlene Caddow, from the Fat Fowl, who supplies the pancakes for the race, said, ‘Hopefully this year no-one will break anything and no emergency vehicles will need to be called.

“Last year the man from The Swan pub broke his leg when a giraffe fell on him.”

Residents of Trowbridge Oaks care home in West Ashton Road will be taking part in a ‘golden oldies’ pancake race on Tuesday, in a bid to win the title of Bupa’s oldest pancake race.

They will be competing against 50 other care homes across the UK.
