Opera singer Sarah Pottinger, who has only recently come to live in Devizes, will star in Devizes Lions’ Spring Serenade at the Corn Exchange on Saturday March 20.
Mezzo- soprano Mrs Pottinger is married to Justin Pottinger, curate at St John’s Church, and the couple live in Queen’s Road, Devizes.
They met at Oxford University, where Mrs Pottinger, who originally hails from South Wales, was awarded the Jacqueline du Pre music scholarship. She teaches music at Canford School in Dorset.
She said: “I have always sung as a hobby but I do love it. I am really looking forward to the concert and I hope it gets me more singing engagements in the area.
“Because I still have more contacts in South Wales, most of my gigs are there.”
Mrs Pottinger will sing some of her favourite pieces at the concert, including items by Mozart and Ivor Novello as well as a traditional song from Wales.
Also on the programme is the Bath Male Choir, which featured on BBC’s Last Choir Standing, and violinist Lizz Lipscombe, who trained at the Royal Academy of Music in London and now lives in Bristol.
Tickets are on sale, price £10, from Devizes Books.
