Wiltshire's Adult Learner Awards 2010 will see teachers and training teams recognised for their efforts, at an awards ceremony in May.
Organisers are requesting people to come forward with nominations for adult learners and one to recognise teachers’ efforts in helping people to learn later in life.
The awards are split into eight different categories: Wiltshire Adult Apprentice of the Year, Wiltshire Adult Work Based Learner of the Year, Trainer or Training Team of the Year, Skills for Life Learner of the Year, Higher Education Learner of the Year, Wiltshire IT Learning Centre Learner of the Year, Wiltshire Senior Learner of the Year, Inspiring Others to Learn – Tutor Award.
All nominations will also be considered for the overall award of Wiltshire Adult Learner of the Year 2010.
Wiltshire College director of group communications and marketing Stephanie Stephenson said: “I think the awards demonstrate that no matter what age, you can learn new skills either for fun or to improve your life.
“Adult learning gives people the chance to find a new job or get back into work. It transforms lives.”
The winners will be chosen by a panel of judges from across all aspects of learning in Wiltshire.
Judging will take place the week beginning April 19 with shortlisted finalists being notified by April 26.
All nominees will receive a Certificate of Achievement, while winners and runners up will be invited to an awards ceremony during Adult Learners’ Week on May 18 or 20.
Mrs Stephenson said: “We are delighted that the media partners for these awards are the Gazette & Herald, the Wiltshire Times and Salisbury Journal.”
Last year 43-year-old Trish Emery, of Corsham was awarded Skills for Life Learner of the Year, sponsored by Apetito, and was the winner of the overall award of Wiltshire Adult Learner of the Year.
Mrs Stephenson said that local businesses can get involved with sponsorship of the awards.
“There has never been a better time to be associated with such great success stories and generate some positive PR for your organisation,” she said.
Award sponsorship costs £250 per award and the company’s name will be associated with the award.
Applications should be made on the official nomination form which can be obtained from www.wiltshire.ac.uk or you can apply on-line. No additional supporting information will be considered.
Only full completed and signed forms can be considered.
If you nominate yourself you need to get your tutor or employer to support your nomination.
If you nominate someone else you will need to get their agreement and signature before submitting the form.
